The Introduction to Son Cubano session went very well indeed (30 May).
A refreshing session for most, but new for a few. We just covered the basics and kept it smooth and simple.
Saturdays through June 2026
The Arts Centre Washington, 2-4 pm

Introduction to Son Cubano, 30 May 2026
Many people who dance salsa have not even heard of Son, although they will have danced to the music. It’s a smooth, elegant dance of Cuban origin. Son Cubano is now enjoying a resurgence, both in its traditional and modern forms.
Son may just look like a slow, simple salsa - but there is a lot more to it in terms of rhythm, timing, and a very different feeling.
Learn to dance Son and you will hear familiar music differently.
To start with we will be using traditional Son music for the sessions, and moving on to modern versions.
Be careful when researching Son Cubano on the internet, many videos are of cabaret style, with very flamboyant performances. The videos below are more traditional social styles.
