The Arts Centre Washington
Please note that there are no sessions on Saturdays 5 & 12 July.
A great turn-out for the first sessions since the end of May on 24 May.
For some it was their first Son session, for others a refresher.
We have just covered the basics in the first sessions, concentrating on timing, rhythm and simple moves and combinations.
Many people who dance salsa have not even heard of Son. It’s a gentle, elegant, traditional dance of Cuban origin. There are some great new Son
tracks lately but most just dance a slow salsa to them.
But there is a bit more to Son in terms of rhythm, timing, and a very different feeling. Learn to dance Son and you will hear familiar music
differently.
We will be using traditional Son music for the sessions, some of which you may well know.
Be careful when researching Son Cubano on the internet, many videos are of cabaret style, with very flamboyant performances. The videos below are more traditional social styles.
